Demographics...
We have chosen some of the most basic characteristics: age, gender, perception of race, and disability* status. These basic characteristics are readily available at all levels of government, enhancing the ability to make multiple comparisons across city, county, state and national levels.

Why are demographic indicators important ?

Demographics are defined as the physical characteristics of a population. Demographics
are a tool for describing a population, understanding some basic facts about who makes up   that population as a whole, and how they compare to other populations.

Hermantown, with a population increase of 19% from 1990 to 2000, is the community in the   Twin Ports with the most rapid population growth. During this same time period, Duluth's   population grew by just 1%, St. Louis County's population increased 1.2% and Proctor's   population decreased by 4.1%. The City of Superior's population increased by just 234   people (0.9%) and the population of Douglas County increased by 3.7%.
